What we do, and what we do not promise.
These are the terms for using shidduch.ai. They describe what the service actually does, where it stops, and what we each rely on the other for.

What the service is
shidduch.ai is an introduction service for the Syrian Jewish community of Brooklyn and Deal. You give us a detailed picture of yourself and what you are looking for. When there is a real reason for two people to meet, we tell you both, and if you each say yes you meet for fifteen minutes on video.
There is nothing to browse. Nobody searches or scrolls profiles. You are introduced deliberately, one person at a time, or you are not seen at all.
What the service is not
We do not promise you a match, an introduction, or any outcome. Nothing here promises that you will be suggested to anybody, that anybody will be suggested to you, that either of you will say yes, or that anything will come of it if you do. Nothing on this site is a prediction about your marriage or your future.
We are not a background-check service. We verify that your photographs are of you, and we ask for references the way a shidduch resume always has. We do not investigate anyone’s history, finances, health, or character, and you should not treat a suggestion as our vouching for a person.
We do not decide halacha. The software applies halachic rules where they can be applied mechanically, and routes anything ambiguous to a person rather than deciding it. It is not a substitute for asking your Rabbi or Hacham, and it does not claim to be.
Every decision is yours. We suggest; you decide. Meeting anybody, continuing with anybody, and anything that follows are entirely your own choices and your own responsibility.
Who may use it
You must be at least eighteen. We ask for your date of birth when you sign up and the account cannot be created without it. This is checked both in the browser and on our servers, and the database itself refuses a date of birth under eighteen years ago.
The account must be yours. Your mobile number is how you sign in, so it has to be a number you personally control. Family helping with facts — your family background, your schooling — is normal and welcome. But the account, the conversation, and the photographs you take in the app must be you.
One person, one account. Do not create an account for somebody else, and do not let somebody else use yours.
Being honest is the whole bargain
Everything here rests on people telling the truth about themselves. When you submit your profile you confirm that what you have entered is accurate and about you.
Edited or misleading photographs can lead to your profile being removed, and to a permanent ban from the service. Two of your photographs are taken inside the app rather than chosen from your camera roll, and before your profile can be matched a person confirms those two are of the same person as any photographs you upload. That comparison is the only thing being checked at that point.
If something changes — you become engaged, your circumstances change, an answer stops being true — please update your profile or tell us.
Your conversation
One step of joining is a conversation conducted by ShidduchAI, our automated assistant. It telephones you, only when you press the button asking it to, and only on the number you verified. It says in its first sentence that it is software and not a person.
The conversation is transcribed. The transcript is used to build your profile and to find matches. It is never shown to anyone you are matched with, and it is never given to a shadchan. Our privacy notice sets out who can see what, including the fact that we can.
The fifteen minutes you spend meeting a match is never recorded. There is no transcript of it and no recording of it.
How you must behave here
This is a small community and what happens here affects real reputations. Conduct yourself accordingly.
- —Do not misrepresent yourself, your circumstances, or your photographs.
- —Do not harass, pressure, threaten, or abuse anybody you are introduced to.
- —Do not share, screenshot, forward, or circulate anybody else’s photographs, details, or messages. What you are shown about another member is shown to you alone.
- —Do not use anything you learn here to contact, identify, or approach somebody outside the platform without their agreement.
- —Do not attempt to access another member’s account or information, to probe or interfere with the service, or to collect data from it by automated means.
- —Do not use the service to advertise, recruit, solicit, or sell anything.
Removal, suspension, and leaving
We may suspend or remove an account for any of the conduct above, for misleading photographs or information, or where we believe somebody’s safety is at risk. We may also remove a profile for any other reason, or for no reason. Where it is possible and appropriate we will say why. Where somebody’s safety is the reason, we may not.
Editing or misrepresenting your photographs can lead to removal and to a permanent ban — not only from the profile you have now, but from rejoining later. This is the one thing the whole platform rests on: somebody agreeing to meet is relying on the photographs being of you.
You can leave whenever you like. Self-service deletion is not built yet — today you ask us, at the address below, and we act on it. What deletion does and what has to be kept is set out in the privacy notice, and it is honest about the parts that cannot simply disappear, such as records that describe two people rather than one.
What it costs
Nothing. There is no fee to join, to be introduced, or to use anything on the service as it stands.
A community shadchan may separately be owed shadchanus in the customary way; that is between you and them.
The legal part
No warranty. The service is provided as it is and as it is available. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure against every possible attack, and we make no warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant anything about any other member — whether what they have told us is true, who they are, or how they will behave.
Limitation of liability. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost opportunity, or emotional distress, arising out of your use of the service or your dealings with anybody you meet through it. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Your dealings with other members are your own. We introduce people. We do not supervise, chaperone, or take responsibility for what happens between two adults who have chosen to meet.
Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
Disputes. If something goes wrong, tell us first — write to the address below and we will try to sort it out directly, because almost everything is resolvable that way. Anything that cannot be resolved that way belongs in the state or federal courts sitting in Kings County, New York, and we each agree to those courts.
Changes to these terms. If we change them materially we will say so on this page and update the date at the top. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the change.
If part of this is unenforceable, the rest still stands. These terms, together with the privacy notice, are the whole agreement between us about the service.
